Vice President of Engineering
Description
The Mission
In cybersecurity, engineering isn’t just building software—it’s building the shield that protects the world’s enterprises from threats they can’t yet see. Exabeam is a six-time Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader for SIEM and the largest independent security operations platform in the market, protecting organizations with AI-driven behavioral analytics that detect what rules-based systems miss. Our platform processes over 1 million events per second, turns petabytes of security data into real-time intelligence, and powers the Security Operations Centers that defend some of the world’s most critical enterprises.
We’re looking for a VP of Engineering who leads with trust, builds through people, and creates environments where exceptional engineering happens as a natural consequence of exceptional culture. You’ll lead the organization responsible for Threat Center, Automation, Search, Outcomes Navigator, and Product Quality—translating our technology vision into engineering execution at a pivotal moment in the company’s trajectory.
This is not a caretaker role. With agentic AI reshaping security operations and the SIEM market converging around platform-scale intelligence, the leadership challenges ahead are as human as they are technical: building trust with globally distributed teams, maintaining velocity and morale through rapid growth, and developing the next generation of engineering leaders who will carry this platform forward.
About Exabeam
Exabeam pioneered the application of AI and machine learning to cybersecurity through User and Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA), and today delivers a comprehensive Threat Detection, Investigation, and Response (TDIR) platform that unifies SIEM, UEBA, and SOAR in a single experience. Built cloud-native on Google Cloud Platform, the Exabeam New-Scale platform integrates 795+ behavioral models, 1,800+ anomaly rules, and 9,500+ pre-built log parsers to detect insider threats, credential abuse, and lateral movement that traditional tools miss.
In 2025, we launched Exabeam Nova—an agentic AI system with six specialized AI agents that automates investigation, risk scoring, search, and strategic advisory across the SOC. We introduced the industry’s first AI Agent Behavior Analytics, securing the emerging non-human workforce of enterprise AI agents. And our Outcomes Navigator became the first SIEM capability to offer configurable peer benchmarking against the MITRE ATT&CK framework, helping CISOs measure and communicate the value of their security programs.
We are a PE-backed company (Thoma Bravo) with approximately 850 employees across six continents, operating with the urgency of a growth-stage company and the ambition of a market leader. We shipped 400+ product innovations in the past year alone.
What You’ll Own
Platform strategy and execution. You will own the engineering roadmap and delivery for five critical product areas that form the backbone of the Exabeam platform:
Threat Center
Our unified TDIR workbench where customer SOC analysts manage alerts, investigations, and response. You’ll guide the teams building AI-powered automation that reconstructs the full story behind every incident through automated timelines and behavioral analytics.
Automation
Our low-code/no-code SOAR environment integrating with 1,000+ third-party tools. You’ll lead the teams enabling SOC workflow automation, from pre-built playbooks to self-service rule authoring and API-based integrations.
Search
Natural language search powered by Google, capable of querying petabytes of data in seconds. You’ll ensure this capability scales while remaining intuitive for analysts at every skill level.
Outcomes Navigator
Our first-of-its-kind capability for measuring security program effectiveness against MITRE ATT&CK techniques and compliance frameworks. You’ll advance peer benchmarking, compliance posture assessment, and executive-ready reporting.
Product Quality
You’ll champion engineering excellence across the organization, building the culture, processes, observability practices, and quality frameworks that ensure our platform performs flawlessly when customers need it most.
People leadership and organizational health. You’ll lead a globally distributed team of 50 engineers across the US and India, including partnering with engineering managers, architects, and individual contributors. Your primary job is to build a leadership bench that multiplies your impact—developing engineering managers into confident, autonomous leaders and creating the organizational health that allows great work to happen. You’ll design team structures that maximize collaboration across time zones while empowering local ownership.
Customer-obsessed engineering culture. You’ll build direct feedback loops between engineering and the customer experience—connecting production telemetry, support escalations, Customer Success insights, and product analytics to drive continuous improvement. Customer SOC analysts work under extraordinary pressure, 24/7. You’ll ensure every engineer on your teams understands how their work impacts those analysts’ ability to defend their organizations. Customer empathy isn’t a slide in a deck—it’s a daily practice.
Technical partnership. You’ll be a trusted partner in shaping Exabeam’s technical direction. Your engineering directors bring deep technical rigor to architectural decisions. Your role is to ensure the organizational conditions—team health, clarity of priorities, engineering culture, operational discipline—that allow strong technical decisions to be made well and executed with excellence.
Who You Are
We evaluate candidates on four dimensions—drive, attitude, character, and technical aptitude—and we weight them deliberately. Technical depth matters, but we’ve learned that the qualities which make engineering organizations extraordinary can’t be taught. The right person for this role wins on who they are before what they know.
Drive
You lead with relentless curiosity and urgency. You’re energized by hard problems and won’t rest until you’ve found the right answer, not just a good-enough one. You set ambitious goals for yourself and your teams, and you pursue them with the sustained intensity that building a market-leading platform demands. You have a builder’s mentality—you derive energy from creating things that matter, from teams to processes to products. When obstacles appear, you find a way through. When the path is unclear, you move forward anyway—and bring people with you.
Attitude
You bring an entrepreneurial spirit and the grit to match. You approach competing priorities and distributed team dynamics with optimism and adaptability. You don’t wait for permission to improve things, and you don’t accept “that’s how we’ve always done it” as an answer. You see engineering culture as a competitive advantage and invest in it deliberately—through experimentation, creative problem-solving, knowledge sharing, and celebration of great work. You elevate the energy of every room you’re in and every team you lead. People feel more capable, more confident, and more connected after working with you.
Character
This is the dimension we care about most deeply. Your character is your calling card. You lead with integrity, earn trust through transparency, and hold yourself to the same standards you set for your teams.
You build psychologically safe environments where engineers bring their full selves to work, take smart risks, speak up when something feels wrong, and learn from failure without fear. You are fiercely protective of team health—you address toxic dynamics early, you advocate for your people in rooms they’re not in, and you create the conditions where collaboration happens naturally rather than by mandate.
You understand that trust is the highest-leverage investment a leader can make. You extend it generously and earn it consistently. You communicate honestly about trade-offs, timelines, and technical debt, even when the truth is uncomfortable. You share context openly because you believe informed teams make better decisions than directed ones.
When a team member is struggling, they feel your genuine investment in their growth. When an engineering manager needs coaching, you give them the honest feedback that helps them get better—not the comfortable feedback that keeps the peace.
You’ve built teams that people talk about years later. Not because of what they shipped—although they shipped great things—but because of what it felt like to be part of something meaningful.
Technical Aptitude
You have enough technical depth to earn credibility with senior engineers and make sound judgment calls about engineering direction. You don’t need to be the deepest technical person in the room—your engineering directors own that lane—but you understand the landscape well enough to ask the right questions, recognize strong technical thinking, and ensure engineering decisions align with product and business outcomes. You bring intellectual curiosity about AI/ML, behavioral analytics, and the evolving cybersecurity threat landscape, and you create space for your teams to explore and innovate in these areas.
What You Bring
Required Experience
• 10+ years of progressive leadership in SaaS or platform organizations, including 5+ years leading teams of 50+ people across multiple product areas. Your background may span engineering, product operations, technical program management, or general management—what matters is that you’ve led the delivery of complex SaaS products at scale.
• Demonstrated culture builder —You’ve built team cultures that attract and retain top talent through a genuine sense of purpose, psychological safety, and shared ownership of outcomes. You can point to specific teams you’ve built, practices you’ve introduced, or cultural transformations you’ve led that materially improved retention, engagement, and output. References will confirm it.
• Trust-based leadership track record — you’ve led through influence and earned authority, not positional power. You’ve navigated organizational change, competing priorities, or rapid growth by building coalitions, maintaining transparency, and keeping teams aligned through uncertainty.
• Global distributed team leadership — you’ve successfully led organizations spanning multiple geographies and time zones. You understand the intentional communication, organizational design, and cultural investment required to make distributed teams exceptional rather than merely functional.
• Strong customer experience and success orientation — you’ve worked in organizations where the teams building the product are deeply connected to customer outcomes. You’ve built processes that translate customer pain into priorities and partnered closely with Customer Success, Support, and Product teams.
• SaaS platform fluency — you understand the operational realities of running a cloud-native SaaS platform: release cadences, reliability expectations, observability, incident management, and the relationship between platform health and customer trust. You’ve led teams through the pressures of maintaining uptime while shipping innovation.
• Observability and operational excellence mindset — whether from building observability practices or embedding SRE-driven culture, you understand that production insight is the foundation of product quality and customer trust.
Valued Experience
